"Sometimes He allows the mind of a man of distinguished birth to follow its bent, grants him fulfillment and felicity on earth and forts to command in his own country" (1730-1734) This quote was during Hrothgar's discourse on the dangers of powers. It shows the contrasts between a young prideful warrior and an older, wiser king. He is warning Beowulf that his pride should not interfere his duty as King or hero. "The gallant man could see he had entered some hellish turn-hole and yet the water did not work against him because the hal-roofing held off the force of the current; then he saw firelight, a gleam and flare-up, a glimmer of brightness" (1512-1517) This quote examines Beowulf's strength. As his last battle before becoming King, it showed his courage as warrior and a man who is protecting a city that isn't even his own. "The Geat people built a pyre for Beowulf, stacked and decked it until it stood for-square, hung with helmets, heavy war-sheileds and shining amour, just as he had ordered it" (3137-3140)
This quote is important as it portrays Beowulf''s respect as a man. Even after his death, his wishes are commanded and his people work hard to keep his legacy alive.
